1871、secret a. 秘密的，机密的 n. 秘密
［语境］His secret died with him, for he never told anyone.
他的秘密至死也不为人知，因为他从未告诉过别人。
All the people who know this secret represent a security risk.
凡是知道这个秘密的人都对安全造成危险。
［考点］a top secret 绝密； let out a secret 泄漏秘密。
1872、section n. 章节；部分；地区；截面，剖视图
［巧记］sect“切， 割”+ion；派生词：sectional adj.分项的，分节的；sectionalism n.地方主义
［语境］First the surgeon performed the section of the blood vessel.
外科医生首先切开血管。
The last section sums up all the arguments on either side.
最后一部分总结了双方的全部论点。
［考点］build in sections 分段制造；right section 右段, 右部。
1873、sector n. 部门，部分；防御地段，防区；扇形
［巧记］派生词：sectorial（adj.扇形的; 适于切割的）
［语境］Price in most sector is steady to slightly easier today.
今天多数部门的价格从坚稳渐趋疲软。
All sector of the economy suffer from the fall in the exchange rate.
所有经济部门都遭受到这次汇率下跌带来的损失。
［考点］a sector of a sphere 扇形圆 锥；sector scan 监视某一有限地区的雷达扫描。
1874、secure a.安全的，可靠的 vt.得到，获得；防护，保卫
［巧记］se-离开＋cura留心
［语境］Make the windows secure before leaving the house.
出门之前把窗户关严。
The little boy felt secure near his parents.
那小男孩在父母身边感到安心。
［考点］be secure of 对...有把握, 确信；feel secure about [as to] 对...(觉得)放心。
1875、see vt. 看见；会面；探望；知道，获悉；送行
［语境］If you shut your eyes you can't see.
要是把眼睛闭上就什麽也看不见了。
It was getting dark and I couldn't see to read.
天渐渐黑了，我看不见字，无法再阅读了。
1876、seek v. 寻找，探索；试图，企图
［语境］The flood started and we had to seek higher ground.
发大水了，我们得到高的地方去。
We sought her out to tell her of her success.
我们找到她，告诉她她成功了。
［考点］seek for试图获得；play hide and seed捉迷藏；seek out找到，搜出。
1877、seem v. 好像，似乎
［巧记］派生词：seeming（n.外观, 外貌; 表象adj.表面上的; 似乎真实的）
［语境］The children seem unaffected emotionally by their parent's divorce.
孩子在情绪上似乎未受到父母离婚的影响。
He seems to know everything.
他似乎什么都懂。
［考点］seem , look , appear这三个词一般用作半系词，都可以汉译作“似乎”或“看上去”。seem所表示的“似乎”或“看来”是以客观的迹象为依据的；look所表示的“看来”是以视觉所接受的印象为依据的；appear与上两个词的含义似乎没有多大差异，但是如果要表示某种判断是由被歪曲了的印象而得出的，最好用appear。
1878、seize vt. 抓住；夺取；占领
［巧记］派生词：seizin（n.依法占有; 依法占有之财产）反义词：loose （v.释放）
［语境］She seized on my suggestion and began work immediately.
她采纳了我的建议，马上干了起来。
Seize any opening you can.
只要有机会就要抓住。
［考点］seize contrlo夺取控制权；seize hold of抓住，占领；seize with both hands 积极抓住（机会）。
1879、seldom ad. 很少
［巧记］反义词：often
［语境］I have seldom seen such brutality.
我很少见到这种暴行。
The island is seldom，if ever，visited by ships.
这个岛难得有船停靠。
The apple tree is seldom fruitful.
这棵苹果树很少结果。
［考点］seldom放在句首的时候用倒装。Very seldom does he eat any breakfast.他很少吃早餐。
1880、select vt. 选择，挑选
［巧记］派生词：selection（n.选择）
［语境］This is a very select area，you have to be rich to live here.
这是高级住宅区，你必须有钱才能住在这里。
Our shops select only the very best quality produce.
我们商店都是精选的质量最高的产品。
［考点］selection n.选择，精选物；selective adj.精选的，选择的。
1881、selfish adj. 自私的，利己的
［巧记］self＋-ish形容词后缀；派生词：selfishness（n.自我中心; 任性; 利己主义）
［语境］Their motives, as will soon become apparent (ie as you will soon see), are completely selfish.
他们的动机很快就能看出, 完全是自私自利.
Nobody but you could be so selfish.
除了你之外, 谁也不会这样自私.
1882、sell v. 卖，出售
［语境］Her name will help to sell the film.
有她的名字，这部影片就卖座。
It's a real sell: the food seems cheap but you pay extra for vegetables.
真骗人，饭食好像很便宜，可是吃菜还得另付钱呢。
1883、send v. （sent，sent）1. 打发；派遣；2. 送；寄出
［语境］He was sent down for ten years for armed robbery.
他因持械抢劫被判入狱十年。
Men who refused to strike were sent to coventry by their colleagues.
凡是不参加罢工的人，同事都不理睬他们。
1884、sensation n. 感觉，知觉；激动，轰动，轰动一时的事情
［巧记］词根：sense sens＋-ation
［语境］The outrageous book created a sensation.
那部耸人听闻的书曾轰动一时.
I knew the train had stopped, but I had the sensation that it was moving backwards.
我知道火车已经停了，但我觉得火车在倒退。
［考点］a sensation of fear 恐怖感； create [cause, make] a sensation 使感动, 引起轰动。
1885、sense n. 感官；感觉；判断力；意义 v. 觉得，意识到
［语境］I hope she soon sees sense and stops fighting a battle she cannot win.
我希望她能很快明白过来，别再打这场打不赢的仗了。
It would make sense to leave early.
早点离开是明智的。
［考点］have plenty of sense 富有见识；have the sense to (do) 因有头脑而做某事。
1886、sensible a. 明理的，明智的
［巧记］sens[e]感觉＋-ible形容词后缀
［语境］It was a sensible idea，I felt.
我觉得这是切合实际的想法。
I don’t think that’s sensible.
我认为这是不实际的。
［考点］be sensible of知道，觉察到。
1887、sensitive a. 敏感的；灵敏的
［语境］This tooth is sensitive to cold.
这颗牙对冷过敏。
The substance is irritable to sensitive skin.
这种物质对敏感的皮肤有刺激性。
［考点］sensitive to sth对……过敏；The stock exchange is sensitive to likely political changes.证券交易所对政治变化很敏感。
1888、sentence n. 句子；判决，宣判 v. 宣判，判决
［语境］I'm not satisfied with his interpretation of this sentence.
我不太满意他对这个句子的翻译。
The sentence of six months imprisonment was most unjust.
六个月监禁的判决极其不公。
1889、separate a. （from）分离的，分开的
［巧记］se-离开＋parare安排
［语境］The war separated many families.
战争使许多家庭妻离子散。
This word has three separate meanings.
这个词有三个不同的意思。
［考点］separate … from … 把…和…分开 ；separate sth. into several portions 把某物分成几份。
1890、sequence n. 继续，连续；序列，数列；先后，次序，顺序
［巧记］派生词：sequencing（n.按顺序安排）；sequent adj.连续的，相连的；同义词：continuation
［语境］A sequence of murders had prompted the police to actions.
一连串的谋杀迫使警方不得不采取行动。
We will deal with events in historical sequence.
我们将按照历史上的先后顺序研究这些事件。
［考点］in sequence依次，逐一。
